Join us in the incredible Lake District where we’ll have unforgettable adventures scrambling up ghylls, climbing mountains, getting to know God, paddle boarding, abseiling, kayaking, rock climbing, reading the Bible, singing, dancing and chilling together with new friends. No experience needed. Just come along with a willingness to join in and have some serious Kepplewray fun!
Kepplewray itself has extensive grounds just outside the picturesque market town of Broughton. There are 2 large playing fields, an archery field, a climbing tree, abseil ramp, and many more inventive and challenging activities right on site. We are surrounded by fantastic scenery. The nearby Duddon and Eskdale valleys provide perfect spots for rock climbing, ghyll scrambling and bridge jumping. For water-based activities we have private access to nearby Coniston Water, where we go canoeing, paddle-boarding, kayaking, raft-building, and lay on all sorts of fun activities including trips to the island. On walk day, there is something to suit everybody - whether you’d prefer to take it easy, exploring woods or hidden caves, or take up the challenge of conquering one of England's highest mountains. Whatever you choose, the memories will stay with you for ever!
The Kepplewray Centre in the beautiful Lake District National Park is a great place for a holiday. The food is brilliant and there’s plenty of it. Sleeping is in small dormitories and there are loads of hot showers. There is lots of space inside and out for chilling, as well as large rooms for meeting up and enjoying fellowship all together. The Centre also has loads of equipment available to lend out, so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors whatever the weather. Kepplewray has outstanding facilities for people with disabilities and as a Venture Team we love to include people of all abilities in everything that we do.
The Programme and The Team:
Our program is based on members choosing from an amazing range of activities amidst a daily routine of morning and evening Bible study, worship, discussion, and prayer. As well as the on-site fun of imaginative team games and whole Venture mayhem, off-site activities include paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, rock climbing, abseiling, ghyll scrambling and bridge jumping, all taking place amidst spectacular scenery in the Lake District National Park. And let’s not forget the Venture highlight – Hunt the Leader! After a busy and active day, our evening meetings aim to keep everyone engaged and challenged, with fun competitions, lively music, and thought-provoking teaching from the Bible. It’s a great place to make new friends and grow your Christian faith - the Kepplewray family continue to encourage one another in our Christian walk throughout the year. Marian and Daphne are joined as overall leaders in 2021 by Richard and Sarah Hughes, who are old hands on Venture. Together we will be coordinating an enthusiastic team of creative and energetic volunteers, many of whom have been coming to Kepplewray for years. Experienced teachers and youth workers join with students and young professionals from many different backgrounds (as well as the odd vicar!), to put together a fun-filled and action-packed program from morning to night. Qualified Kepplewray Instructors work alongside us, supervising all outdoor activities to ensure that we stay safe on our adventures.
