Hosting a Ventures Sunday at your church is a great way to tell others about Ventures!
You can promote Ventures in your church at any point during the year - have a look at the Ventures Sunday resources on this page and then chat with your church leader about getting a slot in a service.
For many young people and leaders the idea of standing up at the front of church is a scary one, so we have produced some resources to help with the process of putting together a presentation. If you went on a Venture this summer, why not use the opportunity to share your own experiences? Make sure you show plenty of photos!
Catherine Wilson, a Venture Overall Leader, says, 'I did a short slot, using the PowerPoint from the website and adding my own text. It was helpful to have the suggested outline, which I supplemented with very brief comments from adults and children in the congregation who have been on Ventures.'
Andy Castle, Director of Youth Ministries at St Paul's Leamington Spa, says, 'Throughout August we had feedback every Sunday from different camps and holidays that members had been on, including a Venture and a Falcon Camp. This worked well and great testimonies were shared.'
Here are some ideas for your Ventures Sunday:
- Do a short (five minute) presentation - you could do it by yourself or, if you went with a group from your church, do something all together
- Include Ventures in your prayers for others
- Take a collection after the service for the work of Ventures and Falcon Camps. Please discuss this with your church leader first - if they are happy for it to happen, cheques should be made payable to CPAS Ventures.
When explaining how donations will be used, you can tell people that the cost of a Venture is one of the primary issues that prevent some families from sending their children on a Venture. Costs are kept as low as possible but the pressure of rising prices in several different areas means Venture fees continue to rise. Our generous supporters mean that we can make more bursaries available for families who would otherwise be unable to send their children on a life-changing Venture holiday.
'We were really excited by the number of churches which got involved!' Mark Norris, a Venture Overall Leader, says of Ventures Sunday: 'At St Mark's Leamington Spa, we got members and leaders to stand up and say what the best thing about their Venture had been, and leaders shared stories of what God had done. We encouraged people to consider being part of Ventures and Falcon Camps next year and put some pictures up on the screen as we shared.'
To help you prepare for your Ventures Sunday, we've created a range of resources:
Preparing a presentation
If you're not used to speaking in public, or you just want to make sure you don't forget to include everything you're planning to say, here's a step-by-step guide to preparing a presentation.
Ventures Sunday Presentation
Here's a PowerPoint template for you to use if you'd like to show some photos while you do your presentation. Alternatively, if you'd rather not get up in front of people, you can use this template to tell your Ventures story for you! Feel free to add your own photos or use the ones already here. N.B. Check the notes on each slide for tips about what info to include.
Praying for Ventures (PowerPoint)
If you'd rather write your own prayer, use these points to give you some ideas of things to pray for. Feel free to add your own photos!
Praying for Ventures (Word document)
We'd love you to pray for Ventures! Here's a prayer you can just read, or give to someone else to read on your behalf. You can add your own prayer points too!
Hopefully there will be interest from some people in your church about Ventures. It's a good idea to take some sign up sheets in case they want to join our mailing to receive more information about Ventures. You can post these back to us, and we'll take care of the rest.
Don't forget to have fun, and let us know how you get on!
If you'd like to know more, you can phone the Ventures office on 0300 123 0780 (option 2) or drop us an email on firstname.lastname@example.org!
